The Santa Barbara Foresters dominated their second game of the NBC World Series with a 13-3 win over the San Diego Stars on Sunday in Wichita.
With the win, Santa Barbara has clinched a spot in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
It was a balanced attack from the Foresters on Sunday, as the offense collected 16 total hits while pitchers Parker Smith and Robert Cranz allowed just one earned run.
Smith started the game and continued his great summer, allowing one run in six innings while striking out six, bringing his season-long record to a perfect 6-0.
The Foresters jumped on the Stars early, as a two-RBI double from Gavin Kash and a homer off the bat of Hudson White put them up 4-0 in the top of the first.
San Diego answered with a pair of odd runs in the second, as they scored on a Santa Barbara error and a balk by Smith to cut the Forester lead to 4-2.
The Stars tacked on another run in the third to make it 4-3, as it looked like they were creeping back into the game. However, the combination of Smith and Cranz sat down 14 of the final 15 batters.
The Santa Barbara offense was far from done, however, as a sacrifice flies from Gianni Horvat and Hunter Ensley extended their lead to 6-3 through six innings. After a Nate Rombach solo homer in the seventh, the Foresters held a comfortable 7-3 lead.
The game was blown wide open in the eighth when the Foresters rattled off six runs, headlined by a Dylan Campbell home run and a bases-clearing double by Blaine Jones to bring home the final three runs and make the score 13-3.
Cranz came in and shut the door on the Stars in the eighth and the game was called due to mercy rule.
Before the quarterfinals on Thursday, the Foresters will play their final game of pool play on Tuesday against the Denver Cougars.
